What are peptides?
• Peptides are a type of pharmaceutical medications. They are defined as a sequence of amino acids less than 40 amino acids long. Peptides and proteins serve as the body’s natural signaling molecules similar to hormones.
• By mimicking the peptides found in the body or replacing them similar to hormone replacement therapy, you can affect disease and promote healthy lives in your patients.
• However, unlike small molecules and other medications, they have several advantageous properties which make them great in clinical practice!

What is this peptide?
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1), a 28-amino acid peptide, was first described and characterized from calf thymuses in 1977. It is a peptide that can enhance T-cell, dendritic cell (DC) and antibody responses, modulate cytokines and chemokines production and block steroid-induced apoptosis of thymocytes. Due to its pleiotropic biological activities, Tα1 has gained increasing interest in recent years and has been used for the treatment of various diseases in clinics. Even recently, studies have shown that this peptide can reduce mortality from COVID-19 by 30% and even have an anti-aging

Which patients should I consider this in? 
Thymosin Alpha is one of the most widely applicable peptides available. It can be used for infectious diseases such as COVID-19, Hepatitis B and C, EBV, and many others. It can be used in autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s and others to reduce systemic inflammation. It has been studied and been given orphan drug status to help treat malignant melanoma and has positive data in most cancers. It even can help improve the immune system as we age and is a great resource for immunosenescence.
How does it work?
Thymosin Alpha-1 is a very pleiotropic peptide with many mechanisms of action. However, all of these actions work to help improve the immune system!

Are there any side effects?
Thymosin has an excellent safety record. In treatment of more than 10,000 patients with a range of diseases including hepatitis B and hepatitis C, Zadaxin has been well tolerated and is not associated with any significant side effects. Thymosin Alpha-1 has been administered without adverse incident to elderly subjects (up to 101), children (as young as 13 months), and immunodeficient patients. Patients with decompensated liver disease and renal disease requiring hemodialysis show good tolerance to Thymosin Alpha-1 administration.
What is this peptide?
Bremelanotide PT-141 is now used to treat sexual dysfunction in men and women. Unlike other common medications such as Viagra and Cialis, this peptide works in the central nervous system to increase libido and arousal by stimulating certain parts of the brain.

How does it work?
Sexual function and performance is started in the brain. There are several neurochemical mediators which control the process, some increase libido and arousal while some decrease them. Bremelanotide PT-141 causes excitatory behavior in the paraventricular nucleus of the brain by stimulating Melanocortinin receptors.
Which patients should I consider this in?
If you have a patient who has trouble getting aroused, has trouble staying aroused, or has difficulty orgasming. It is particularly helpful in women and has been FDA approved
for women, however, it is also very effective in men at producing erections.

What are the side effects?

• Some patients will experience severe nausea shortly after injecting PT-141. This nausea does NOT happen with everyone and is quite patient dependent. Nausea can range anywhere from a 0 to a 10.
• Some patients can experience flushing shortly after injection but subsides after a few minutes. • With consistent use, pigmentation of mucous membranes such as the gums, tongue, and labia can occur.
Other considerations for Bremelanotide PT-141
Anecdotal experience has shown treatments such as anti-histamines like Benadryl can aid in mitigating the nausea side effects. Recently we have also experienced relief by using Alka-Seltzer Gold prior to injection. We also recommend not using more than twice weekly as patients can develop tachyphylaxis.


What is this peptide?
Thymosin Beta-4 is a naturally-occurring peptide which plays a vital role in the repair and regeneration of injured cells and tissues. After injury, Thymosin Beta-4, is released by platelets, macrophages and many other cell types to protect cells and tissues from further damage and reduce apoptosis, inflammation and microbial growth.

Which patients should I consider this in?
Patients who have recently suffered an acute injury will greatly benefit from administration of TB4. It will dramatically speed up their recovery as well as decrease inflammation. Patients with chronic inflammation or tissue damage will also heal over time, but results may come after a few cycles. You can also consider it in dry-eye patients or patients who need help with corneal healing. This is a great product to add in addition to biologic procedures such as PRP and Stem cells. As a precaution, it would be best to avoid use in active cancer patients.


What is this peptide?
Melanotan I and Melanotan II are both analogs of the peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that induces skin tanning. Melanotan I plays a role in stimulating melanogenesis and thus provides a protective mechanism against UV rays since under its actions melanocytes are able to increase production and secretion of the hormone melanin. Melanotan I is an FDA approved drug under the brand name Scenesse. Scenesse is most commonly used to treat patients that have an intolerance to light.
Which patients should I consider this in?
Those patients are looking for increased melanogenesis for aesthetic purposes to provide tanning of the skin and more protection against UV rays. Melanotan I has also been studied in those with Vitiligo in combo with UVB light therapy. Melanotan I being an MSH analog has also shown to be beneficial at low doses for those with mold toxicity.
Other considerations Melanotan
Do not recommend treating melanotan in those patients with active Melanoma or a history of skin cancer within the past 5 years.
What is this peptide?
Pentosan polysulfate is a semi-synthetic polysulfated xylan used for the relief of Osteoarthritis. The mechanism of PPS action in osteoarthritis is multi-factorial, with both stimulation of cartilage matrix synthesis and prevention of cartilage breakdown. There are also systemic effects on blood lipid and fibrinolysis that may help clear the subchondral circulation. In one study, after a series of four to six intra-articular PPS injections into knees of human volunteers, there was a significant increase in the size of the synovial fluid hyaluronan without causing any inflammation or bleeding into the joint cavity.
Which patients should I consider this in?
This a great option for those patients that are suffering from osteoarthritis and are wanting to prevent surgery or intra-articular injections


What is this peptide?
Sermorelin is a synthetic hormone peptide composed of 29 amino acids. It’s similar in structure to a growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). It’s commonly utilized to optimize growth hormone levels in adults, while offering a variable IGF-1 increase. Sermorelin works to improve hormonal balance and enhance energy, burn
fat, increase lean muscle, improve sleep quality, enhance memory, sex drive and more by stimulating the production and release of hormones by the pituitary.
Glycine is an amino acid that can also act as a neurotransmitter. It has been used to help treat BPH, insomnia, schizophrenia, and stroke. Research has
shown that it can also help to stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete growth hormone without increasing prolactin levels.

Which patients should I consider this in?
This combination can work for a wide range of patients. Our predominant patient base would be >40 years old looking to regain some of their youthful energy, and shed some stubborn weight. In addition, any patients suffering from sleep disturbances will greatly benefit. This peptide combination will enhance the amount of time spent in deep sleep, and will enable patients to feel more refreshed in the morning. Sleep benefit is typically the first result noticed when starting this medication (~1-2 weeks into dosing). Lastly, over time due to IGF-1 rise patients will see increased lean muscle as well as decreased body fat. These body composition changes can take up to 3 months, and will be dramatically enhanced when combined with proper diet and exercise.
Increasing growth hormone can also help with anti-aging by fighting immunosenescence. The thymus has GH and GHRH receptors and through long term stimulation you can regenerate the thymus from atrophy to rejuvenate the immune system. This has been shown to reduce epigenetic aging as well.
